CANDIDATES INTENDING TO DESIGNATE FOREIGN LEGAL QUALIFICATION
Prospective candidates wishing to have their foreign legal qualifications designated by Council for Legal Education (CLE) as well as to write the conversion examinations should take note of the following.
1. Applicants should click APPLY NOW and fill in the virtual Designation Application Form.
The following requirements should be attached on the same online application in the formats specified:
a) Passport Sized Photo [Samples]
b) 1 Notarised copy of Birth Certificate
c) A Notarised copy of the National ID of the applicant
d) 1 copy Curriculum Vitae
e) 1 Notarised copy of the LLB Degree certificate
f) 1 Notarised copy of the LLB Degree transcript
g) All Copies must be fully Notarised with a Stamp stating that the copy is a True Copy of the Original signed with the date.
h) A non-refundable fee of $60US or ZiG2100. Pay Online (Ecocash, Telecash, Mastercard etc)
For degrees obtained from countries other than RSA, Nam, Lesotho, Swaziland and Botswana you also bring: g) 1 notarised copy of the ZIMCHE Certificate

The council now accepts EcoCash and now has a swipe facility at the office. You can also pay by ZIPIT, Internet Banking, CBZ Touch, mobile banking, ZIG – And attach the proof of payment which must be clear. Swipe and other payments can be made at the CLE Office at No. 7 Walter Hill Avenue, Eastlea, Harare.Â
PROCESS FOR DEALING WITH APPLICATIONS
After an application is received:
- It is checked for completeness by Secretariat of the Council.
- An email acknowledging receipt of the application is then sent to the applicant.
- Applicants will be advised if any further material is required.
- The application is then referred to the Council for a comprehensive assessment of the applicant’s qualifications and experience.
- The Council will then notify applicant of its determination.
CLE EXAMINATIONS
CLE Examinations are written three times a year.
- First Examination Sitting – April
- Second Examination Sitting – August
- Third Examination Sitting – December
Once your application has been granted to sit for Conversion Examinations:
- For those with exemptions, first settle your Exemption Fees
- Choose a convenient session between the 3 sittings
- Check if the Registration Period for your chosen session is open
- Pay your Registration Fees for the courses you have selected to undertake for that session
- Make payment for Student ID processing (See below for ID processing instructions)
- Refer to the NOTICE BOARD for the Exams Timetable
REQUEST YOUR ID CARD
Once you have enrolled, you must update your records in the student portal. To do this, please follow these steps:
- Access the Website: Visit the Council for Legal Education website at https://cle.org.zw
- Navigate to the Portal: On the top menu bar, click on Candidate Portal. A new page will open.
- Login: Select the last option, labeled Candidate Portal, and click to login.
- Credentials: Enter your candidate number and password when prompted.
(If you dont know your candidate number, may you please send an email to examinations@cle.org.zw) - Update Records: Once logged in, please upload a passport size photo for ID processing and fill in all the required fields.
- ID Printing: To have your ID printed, send proof of payment ($20) via WhatsApp to 0777808275
